The first full focus group week in 2017 of the CharIN e.V. took place from March 13th to 17th in Berlin. During this week, experts from all over the world met daily to exchange information about latest developments regarding the Combined Charging System (CCS), the standard for charging battery-powered electric vehicles of all kinds. The CharIN Focus Groups work on topics such as infrastructure, conformance test or grid integration and thus represent the technology expertise center of CharIN.

During the CharIN Foucs Group Week over one hundred participants in five focus groups discussed the strategic goals for the CCS system for the next year and the necessary measures for achieving these goals. Recent developments regarding high power charging, bidirectional charging and smart charging were just a few noteworthy topics that were debated during the week. Emphasis was further put on the development and implementation of relevant international standards and on practical test devices for conformance testing.

97% of focus group members rated the meetings very good or excellent. The discussed topics will be further developed in the individual focus groups via telephone conferences. All activities are directed at achieving one central target: To draw up requirements for the evolution of charging-related standards and to develop a certification system for use by manufacturers implementing the CCS in their products.
