Competitive Edge - Why we're different!
What makes the Combined Charging System (CCS) and
the CharIN association so unique?
The answer is simple: CCS is currently the world’s only charging system that covers all charging scenarios with a single product. Drivers of any type of electric vehicle can choose between normal and fast charging as well as AC (single-phase up to three-phase) and DC (up to high power of > 350 kW) – and they only need a single system for all these options. The CCS also has the advantage of being accepted and supported by a significant number of major companies from different industries.
The CharIN association is unique, as it is comprised of multiple experts across a variety of industries who have worked together as a team to make this breakthrough possible. The European Union's official charging solution, which is based on the CCS international standards, is effective now and will be implemented in full by 2017 at the latest. Any company can join the association and work with the other members on further developments for the CCS. The association itself is non-profit.
Rather than reinventing the wheel, the CCS team focused on an innovative approach: rethinking existing systems, while incorporating all the relevant international standards. The result is an ingenious and future-proof solution that is universal for all electric vehicles and charging scenarios while remaining safe and easy to use. That’s what makes the CCS so unique!
New charging interfaces as pantograph connection or inductive charging are enhancing the CharIN portfolio to a one stop shop for every charging scenario.
Great interest from the EV community in CCS at the ISO/IEC 15118 Testing Symposium in Versailles
The 6th International CCS & ISO/IEC 15118 Testing Symposium hosted by the CharIN member VEDECOM brought together more than 200 participants from 85 companies from the smart charging community including many CharIN members; it was the biggest event so far in the series of Testing Symposia since its...
CharIN recommendation: A harmonized connector approach per geographical region facilitates EV market uptake
CharIN is dedicated to support and establish the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the standard for charging Battery Electric Vehicles (EVs) of all kinds. As there are different CCS connector types used in the different regions of the world, CharIN recommends a harmonized CCS connector approach per...
